When College Basketball Season Ends

Tonight is the official end to college basketball season. We will crown a champion, one team will get some new hats and they’ll cut down the nets. While we’re down to Villanova and North Carolina, so many things have happened in the college basketball world I’ve almost forgotten that we still have one more game to go.

Over the last month we’ve said goodbye to our seniors, we’ve seen teams completely heartbroken in the locker room, we’ve seen brackets busted, top teams taken down, nets cut down but most of all we’ve seen some pretty awesome basketball games (except for the final four, that was just boring).

As teams have seen their seasons come to an end over the last few weeks players have started declaring for the NBA draft, transfer requests are coming out, coaching changes are happening (I’m refusing to believe the Bryce Drew to Vanderbilt rumors) and those teams who faced disappointment are already back in the gym getting ready for next year.

For the basketball fans, it’s time to move forward with something else to do every evening.

When College Basketball Season Ends

What To Do During College Basketball’s Off Season

In our house, college basketball is the one sport we both agree on when it comes to sports on TV. I’ll happily attend a football game or baseball game but when it comes to watching it on TV, I have better things to do around the house. On the other hand, my husband isn’t exactly a fan of watching running and gymnastics like I am. Now that college basketball season is over, it’s time to remember what we actually do the rest of the year.

Get Outside

Okay I’ll state the obvious. Hallelujah winter is slowly coming to an end (minus the snow we had this weekend). Chances are we’ll get a few more cold days, but for the most part we’ve been able to spend more time outside in the last few weeks. Maybe, just maybe we’ll get lucky and Winter is gone for good. It’s time to start working in the yard, taking our nightly walks and spending way too much time at the park.

Plan For Next Year’s College Basketball Season

Transfer requests are happening, coaches are changing, players are graduating. So many new things are happening that I can’t even keep up with the news most days. Luckily Indiana Basketball has a few wonderful podcasts (The Assembly Call, Podcast on the Brink & The Justin Albers Podcast) that keep me up to date with the news there. Twitter seems to fill in the blanks for the rest of the teams.

Switch Up Your Sports

As I said, I’m a pretty big gymnastics fan and in the next few weeks there is A LOT of college gymnastics happening. There are floor routines you don’t want to miss, perfect tens being handed out whether they deserve it or not, more upsets happening and a National champion being crowned. If you’ve ever thought about watching a little bit of gymnastics, now is the time.

Catch Up On Netflix

One of these years I’ll be caught up on all of the shows that I want to watch on Netflix. I’m trying very hard to make House of Cards happen but basketball has gotten in the way lately. Maybe now I’ll have time to actually watch season’s 2-4?

Hit The Treadmill

I’ve used the excuse a few times lately that I can’t do an evening workout because basketball is on. I’m going to take a guess and say that I’m not the only one. I guess it’s time to get back on track with those evening workouts, huh?

Prepare Your Olympic TV Schedule

Yes folks, we are officially 123 days away from the start of the Rio Olympics. For two weeks out of the year there is nonstop sports coverage and we can officially watch all of the sports that we forgot existed over the last four years. There’s gymnastics, track and field, the marathon, swimming, diving, cycling, water polo and many, many other sports that we all know get very little TV time the rest of the year. Have you started preparing?

What do you plan on doing with your free time now that March Madness is over?

  1. I don’t know much about basketball, and this was the first time I did a bracket… needless to say it’s no bueno. I did better than my husband at first though, so at least there’s that. Hopefully next year I’ll do better. 🙂
And oh my gosh, I was just thinking about that the other day, Olympics time, already?! Where has the time gone?

    1. Each year brackets get even more fun! I lost mine completely but it was still fun to play along! Yes!! Just over 100 days left, so crazy!

    1. I agree! I’m so behind on a lot of shows I need to catch up!
