My Thoughts
It has been a long time since I’ve been sucked into a book like Crossing the Ice. Rarely do I turn down a book about athletes, especially when it involves the Olympics. Following Courtney & Mark’s every move, I could not stop reading.
I love a good come from behind story. Once they hit Nationals I tuned every one else out in the room, I had to know what happened. Reading along with the story I felt like I was just as invested in Courtney and Mark’s career as their coaches Emily & Sergei were. My heart just broke when it came down to Josh & Stephanie vs. Courtney and Mark. There was no such thing as a good outcome.
Jennifer Comeaux did an awesome job in Crossing the Ice bring Courtney’s feelings for Josh to life, both in skating and out of skating. Josh was put in the stereotypical role of the rich kid who was nothing like the rest of his family. In the end he won the hearts of everyone around him, most importantly Courtney’s.
Courtney and Emily’s relationship is simply the sweetest. It is exactly what an athlete/coach relationship should be. When Courtney wouldn’t talk to Emily I was so afraid that was the end. I was glad to see the way they worked it out and were able to share an Olympic experience.
While there was a lot of foreshadowing, I honestly did not expect the ending. It was a great way to end the book and I literally squealed out loud when I realized there were two more books in the series. The rest of my weekend was consumed with the rest of the series (Losing the Ice | Taking the Ice).
Sergei and Emily’s love story is also available as the Edge series and that is getting added to my “up next” list. This was a wonderful and must read book for anyone who loves a good sports read.
