Five 90s-00s Shows on Netflix To Binge Watch This Winter

Netflix was a game changer for me in watching TV shows. In high school I generally did not keep up with the hottest TV shows that were on each week. I caught TRL after school (mainly for the boybands) and would watch ER once a week but when it came to watching Friends, Gilmore Girls, etc. I was out of the loop. After college when my roommate and I first got Netflix we would pick shows on Netflix to binge watch together and would slowly get each DVD. When streaming came out it took binge watching to a whole new level.

I went back to Netflix and was able to catch up on all of these shows I had skipped out on before fairly quickly. Some are repeated routinely throughout the year as I will watch them over and over again.

Shows On Netflix To Binge Watch

As you are settling in for at least another month of Winter, here are five late 90s-00s shows on Netflix to binge watch starting right now.

Gilmore Girls

As excited as I am for the four episode Netflix revival, there is no show with an amazing hometown feel as Gilmore Girls. For seven seasons you will get to know Loreli and Rory in the wonderful little down of Stars Hollow. You will laugh, you will cry and you will fall in love with each of the characters. This is not only a tv show for girls, but I’ve known many guys to get excited about hanging out in Stars Hollow. If you have nothing planned this afternoon you should start this one right now.

West Wing

When the first season of West Wing aired on TV I watched bits and pieces of it with my Dad. I didn’t understand a lot of it and for the most part didn’t attempt to. Going back 15 years later and watching it start to finish had me hooked. I’m so glad I didn’t attempt to watch it on TV (you’ll understand if you watch the end of season one) but I’m even more glad that I took the time to go back and re-watch it. Yes, it’s political, the technology is out of date (hello pagers) but it is a wonderful show and ultimately I learned a lot while watching it.

Friends

It doesn’t get more classic than Friends and not a day goes by that a Friends reference isn’t used in a conversation somewhere in my life. Not only will you want to move to New York City and have Monica’s apartment, but you will also truly believe that your friendships will always be that perfect. Plus, I often refuse to talk to people who aren’t fans of Friends. There is a reason the world has gone crazy over the almost complete Friends reunion. Even though it is not the first one I’ve mentioned here, Friends tops my list of shows on Netflix to binge watch.

One Tree Hill

As TV shows go, One Tree Hill takes the cake for the most amount of hospital visits in a TV series. Once you accept the fact that people don’t crash their cars nearly as often as they do in this show, it is a wonderful show. Never did I watch it and think “wow this is completely realistic” but I loved all of the characters and fell in love with their story lines. In the TV world, there is no truer love than Nathan and Haley.

Friday Night Lights

A show I wouldn’t normally turn to was Friday Night Lights. I was skeptical at first but in the end I fell in love with the town of Dylan, Texas. Not only was the show great from start to finish but it has helped me appreciate high school football locally more as well. Get through the first season, I promise you won’t regret it.

  2. I can’t wait for the Gilmore Girls revival, I am a massive GG fan and I can probably recite each episode off the top of my head. I have also been rewatching Friends lately!!
