Ipsy For The No Makeup Mom

Spending time getting ready in the morning is something I’ve never been a fan of. The less I have to do, the better. Add in two kids and I want to spend time getting ready even less. I’ve never been a fan of makeup, so when my co-workers started talking about Ipsy, I kind of blew it off. I ignored the conversations, tuned out and just laughed that it would never be something I was interested in.

To be fair, I had never paid attention to what exactly Ipsy was, other than makeup. All I knew was that my co-workers discussed a lot of brands I had never heard of and got excited each month to see what type of bag they were going to get.

After months of dealing with my hair falling out (thanks to Baby B), I asked my co-workers what hair products they recommended for dry hair. After a conversation and two wonderful products on order from Amazon, I made the comment that I wished there was an Ipsy for hair products.

Five minutes later my first glam bag was on the way.

Ipsy Is Not Just Makeup

It turns out, I was wrong about Ipsy. There was so much more to it than just a few samples of makeup each month. When you signup you fill out a survey of your preferences. For example, I said that I typically don’t like much makeup but I love hair products. Instead of getting a generic bag filled with makeup each month, your glam bag is tailored to your liking.

Ipsy Glam Bag

The sneak peek of the glam bag comes out on the first of each month. It’s a small little makeup bag that doesn’t have to be used for just makeup. Small knitting projects? Little things to carry in your purse? A lot of little things can be shoved into the bags and they’re great to help keep a bigger bag organized. Then again, typically I have a problem refusing a free bag of any kind.

A few days later when your glam bag is ready to ship you can get a look at the products coming your way. Different tapes of products and brands are offered each month. Each glam bag comes with 5 different products for you to try. When I got my preview of my first glam bag, I couldn’t wait for it to come. My second glam bag didn’t thrill me at first, but I wound up using most of the products almost right away.

A Look Into My First Two Ipsy Bags

Maybe because I was excited or maybe because I got a hair product, I was in love with my first glam bag. I already have re-ordered the Briogeo Rosarco Blow Dry Perfection Heat Protectant Creme. Not only does it work really well, but it smells amazing. The Camera Ready BB Cream is the only item I haven’t used yet out of my glam bag.

My glam bag came complete with:

Briogeo Rosarco Blow Dry Perfection Heat Protectant Creme
Smashbox Cosmetics Camera Ready BB Cream SPF 35
SLMissGlam Blend Beauty Brush L34
Lasting Smiles Lip Balm in Passionfruit Mango
Naked Cosmetics Mica Pigment in Desert Sunset #02

My second glam bag didn’t excite me on paper but when it came in the mail it started to grow on me. I’m not big on face masks but I definitely am going to give them a try regardless. The mineral eyeshadow and smokey eye pen grew on me a lot faster than I expected them to. Who knew I’d actually take the time to put makeup on in the morning.

In my second glam bag I received:

Marsk Mineral Eyeshadow in You’re Toast
Luna by Luna Cosmetics Highlighter in Calypso
SOO AE Sheet Mask Duo
Rodial Smokey Eye Pen in Black
Luxie Beauty Rose Gold Brush 514

Not bad for two months. I’ve really only skipped over two products out of ten.

Ipsy Deals and Offers

Another bonus that comes along with your monthly Ipsy bag is daily Ipsy offers. So far I’ve only decided to cash in on one offer but there have been some good ones I’ve been bummed to miss out on. Each week day a new offer is posted at 9am PST. The offers are usually good for a week or so but only to a limited number of people. It’s in your best interest to take a quick peek every day.

When you fall in love with a product from your glam bag (let’s be honest, its going to happen eventually) always make sure to check out the Brand offers page. As an Ipsy subscriber you’re able to get some of your favorite products at a discounted price, but only for a limited time. I went to re-order some of my favorite Oaui products not to long ago and realized the codes were no longer available. Make sure to order when you fall in love with them!

Refer your friends to Ipsy and you’ll start to receive points. You can also add to your points by reviewing your bag and products each month. Not only does it help customize your bag but when the points add up you can cash them in for a free sample.

Give It A Try

The best part about Ipsy is that it is a chance for you to try new things. Since signing up for it I’ve found three new brands that I absolutely love. Some things from my glam bag will never be used up. Other samples are already gone. Face masks are something that have scared me to try in the past. This month I got two of them and I can’t wait to give them a try.

For only $10 a month you get a glam bag and 5 free samples. The offers and deals are a bonus that come along with an Ipsy account. Trust me, give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

  1. I have never tried one of these, but it sounds fun. I feel naked without mascara. It sounds like a great way to try new things because it is easy to waste a lot of money on products that you don’t really like.

    1. Yes, it’s wonderful for trying new things. I’ve tried so many new things already that I never would have bought otherwise. With the samples I’ve learned about so many great new products.

  2. I have been wanting to sign up for ipsy. I dont wear much make up. My daughter does though.

    1. I highly recommend it! I’ve actually had friends order it for their daughters since it was cheaper than them buying lots of full sized makeup they’ll rarely use.
