My Not So Secret Coffee Mug Obsession

I don’t know what it is about cups, but for some reason I have hundreds of them. I’m not talking about regular every day drinking cups… I’m talking water bottles & coffee mugs. Let’s save the water bottle discussion for another day as that collection is growing but it is not quite as big as my coffee mug collection.

Coffee Mug Love

For some reason I feel the need to blame a trip to Seattle back in 2009 for my discovery of coffee mugs. Up until this point my only “unique” coffee mugs were two giant mugs from Disney World. The rest of my collection nicely matched my dishes and I was completely okay with that. My cousin and I wandered throughout the city of Seattle and I bought a travel Starbucks mug from the original pikes place shop. From there the collection only expanded.

While some of my coffee mugs come from traveling, a lot of them are simply because I like a quote or a saying on them. Some of the mugs came as gifts from friends and some just have great memories associated with them.

Each Saturday & Sunday when I sit down to enjoy my coffee (currently I’m obsessed with the Chocolate Glazed Donut) I pick out a different coffee mug. Not only do I get to enjoy a nice little caffeine boost, I also get to think of the fun times that came with the coffee mug.

My Disney coffee mugs remind me of two separate fun trips to Florida with my family. My knitting coffee mug reminds me of the 4 years straight that my friends and I skipped out of work on a Friday to visit Stitches Midwest. Hiding in the back is a coffee mug from my trip to visit a good friend in Boston, we ventured out to see where Cheers was filmed.

Even the Christmas mugs get to come out after Thanksgiving. Each year my husband I set a goal of finding new “Ugly” Christmas sweaters. I was so excited last year to find a Christmas sweater coffee mug on clearance at Hobby Lobby.

Work Coffee Mugs

The obsession doesn’t stop at home. My desk at work hides three more of my coffee mugs. One with my favorite quote, another as a daily reminder of our recent trip to Las Vegas & a present from a friend to remind me to be awesome.

It seems like something small, but I love how each coffee mug is special in it’s own little way. Each one carries a memory or an inside joke. It is a nice way to start each day, especially on the days when the caffeine can’t kick in fast enough.

In honor of our desperate need for caffeine on a Monday, I’m linking up with Bain, Erika, Briana (Caffeine & The Athlete), Laura, Kay (Coffee & Your Health), Jessica (Monday Morning Coffee Talk), Marcia, Emily, Coco, Smitha, Tina, Cori (Cori’s Coffee Rant) & Jindy!

Do you have a favorite coffee mug? What makes it so special?

  1. Those mugs are so cute. I have had to move some of my collection to the office too! We have a whole shelf at home, and now my son learned to make them in ceramics, so we had to dedicate another shelf to his creations!

    1. Awww, that is so sweet to have ones that he made on your shelf!! It gets dangerous when you spread them out… you tend to forget how many you have!

  2. Such a fun collection. I have a whopping four mugs that my husband and I use. Well I lie, mostly my husband. I’m not a huge fan of hot beverages (oh the horror!), so I stick with my starbucks cup for iced coffee 🙂

    1. Nothing wrong with keeping it simple! I love starbucks iced coffee especially in the summer. Sometimes its just too warm to have a hot coffee.

    1. Thank you! It really does make for a better way to enjoy your coffee.

    1. Hahaha I LOVE Crate and Barrel glasses! I picked up a few (not pictured) last year when they were on super discount! Always good to have extras.

  3. Cute mugs! My favorite mug was given as a gift from my mom. It has a runner on the front and “get motivated” on the back. She actually found it at a dollar store! I also love my college -team mugs (supports my college football habit). 🙂

  4. I collect Christmas ornaments when we travel so understand the connection between items and memories. Coffee cups are probably a better idea because you get to use them everyday!

    1. Christmas ornaments sound like so much fun though. I could imagine decorating the Christmas tree with all of the memories!

  5. That’s a lovely collection Kristin! I also have like mmmmm 12-15 coffee mugs 🙂 Thinking to have like 30 of these… one for each day of the month lol
