Fourth of July

As I mentioned in my Friday Favorites, our summer tends to revolve around the Fourth of July. It is our favorite holiday & one that is celebrated all weekend long at our house.

This weekend was no exception.

Decorating, cleaning & prep tends to take place late on July 3rd. Luckily this year I had the 3rd off and was able to stay home and help out all day. With my husband off for the summer we were able to knock out a lot of the cleaning & house projects long before the 3rd.

The kids like to kick off their party on the 3rd. This year my niece and little man decided to watch the new Little Rascals. As much as I wished it was the original, that was all Netflix had to offer, so I’ve warned them that they are now required to watch the original with me sometime.

We tend to go a little overboard on Fourth of July fun sometimes. My husband came across our newest addition to the Fourth of July decorations a few weeks ago…Patriotic Bathroom and Toilet Set. Fourth of July is always a complete whirlwind to me. It is so much fun and I find myself enjoying the day, but looking back it’s always hard to remember. I didn’t get my camera out much this year but I had my phone so I could look back on a few random moments throughout the day.

We got to check out a new parade this year. It isn’t the same as the one we are used to but it was still fun, the kids got candy & the Stanley Cup was there. Okay, it might not be the REAL Stanley Cup but it could be…. right?

Following the parade we loaded up with hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, s’mores on a stick, Mike’s Hard Lemonade, veggies, chips & salsa. We even found red, white and blue potato chips at Costco this year. It is safe to say that no one can say that we aren’t festive! There was bags games, kids running around, friends showing up with other friends, family & a whole lot of fun.

We topped off our night with a local fireworks show. Again, I didn’t break out the good camera this year but I was pretty happy with the random burst image I got on my iPhone. Yes, it took 74 other tries to get one that was semi decent but I’ll take it.

I LOVED having the Fourth of July on a weekend. Having the day before and the day after off kept a lot more sanity in our house than past years. Monday was rough but not as rough as it has been the day after in the past. The party continues next year.

How was your Fourth of July? How was your Monday after?
