Playing Stay at Home Mom for a Day

I would like to preface this post with a disclaimer. I am well aware that just because you are home all day does not mean every day is all fun and games. There is work to be done and taking care of kids is not an easy task! This is in no way written to offend anyone!

Every once and awhile I enjoy taking a day to play “stay at home mom”. The reality of me ever being able to financially afford to stay at home fully relies on winning the lotto. (Big money this week!!) With the holiday stress looming, parties to go to, first trips to Santa and lots of upcoming traveling, I decided to take a day off to spend with my little man.

At 9 months old he is an incredibly curious guy. He loves to try new things, sometimes enjoys them and sometimes gives me the “mommy don’t ever take me back there” look.

I decided to sneak in a quick morning workout and try the daycare at the gym we just joined. There are some upcoming times when I am hoping to use it and it seemed like a good day to try it! With a decent quick workout (Capri yoga pants and all!) out of the way we were off for a day of fun!

The entire day was worth it when we went to visit Santa. At 9 months old I realize he will not remember meeting Santa. I also realize that this might be his only trip to Santa’s lap for awhile if he’s terrified of him next year! Very rarely will I say that waiting in line with a 9 month old is a good thing but in this instance it was.

We had about a 15 minute wait. This particular Santa is in a candy factory and it could potentially be stimulation overload for some kids. Waiting in line gave little man a few minutes to adjust to his surroundings, look around and see other kids successfully unsuccessfully take their pictures with Santa. When it was our turn he sat on Santa’s lap no problem and loved checking out his beard! He talked to Santa for a bit and Santa said he was surprised how willingly he was spending time on his lap. I’m pretty sure he just wanted to find a way to eat Santa’s beard, but that’s okay. All in all it was a success and I couldn’t be happier!

The rest of our day was spent playing, doing some cleaning and even had lunch with daddy.

Every once and awhile it’s nice to walk away from the daily stresses of work. While staying at home is not a reality for me, it’s fun to pretend every once and awhile!

What are your favorite things to do on days away from the office?
