First Half Training

This week has been less than awesome. Okay, it hasn’t been ALL that bad… but there have just been a few things going on that have taken pretty much every ounce of mental strength I have.

Half marathon training officially kicked off this week. I am following the Garmin Level 1 Half Marathon Plan. This week we have cross training Monday/Wednesday, runs Tuesday/Thursday, rest Friday, pilates Saturday & long run Sunday. Due to my schedule (aka, my little man) I had to adjust things a tiny bit. My runs this week will be today, tomorrow & Sunday instead of Tuesday. More on cross training this weekend.

I had planned on a quick outside run after the little man went to bed. Tonight’s run was ’30 minutes easy pace’, simple & ready to go. Oops, I forgot about plans I had set with someone so things got pushed back a tiny bit and I wound up at the gym on the treadmill.

Let me just tell you, I LOVE my gym and I am sad that we are switching but I will not miss some of the random people that show up at 9pm. I was already pretty grumpy (for non running related reasons) when I a group of girls in their late teens showed up. There are about 20 treadmills (all but two are empty at this point) at my gym and they choose the one two treadmills down from me to giggle, laugh and try and fit all three of them on at once to run. Needless to say they fell and thought it was hilarious. I jacked up the volume on my music.

Since it was ‘easy pace’ I decided to just set the treadmill around 9 minute mile. I sped up at points and had started out at a 9:15 so it ended around 9:05/mile with 3.3 miles in 30 minutes.

Overall it felt good to be running, but I’m ready to get back to my evening runs. Running only twice outside in almost two weeks has not been good for my sanity!

How was your day?
