10 years ago I would’ve told you sprint workouts sucked and I hated them with a passion. For some reason I was looking forward to tonight’s workout.I could possibly be just weird though.
After the interval workout two weeks ago I felt really energized and awesome so I was hoping to feel that way tonight. It felt AWESOME…. when I was done. HA!
The training plan today called for 10 minute warmup; 2 minutes Run Hard, 1 Minute Recover 6 times; cool down.
Unintentionally I wound up setting a goal halfway through to do each of the sprint intervals under an 8 minute mile. I very much surprised myself at how I was able to keep up for most of the 2 minutes. Only one of my “recovery” times was super slow as well. I was pretty happy with that!
I wound up doing about a 3:42 cool down and just ended there. I ran 3.83 miles in 31:42. My watch alerted me that I pretty much killed my 5k time with a new “PR” of 25:17 (I still consider 25:51 to be my official race PR) and I had my fastest mile ever at 7:49.
Overall I was pretty happy with it and I feel very energized right now, which does not bode well for me getting to sleep at a decent hour. Oops!
If you asked me in high school if I liked intervals/sprints I would’ve laughed and said no I don’t know if they help me. I have noticed a HUGE difference even doing it just twice in pushing myself & how it’s helping with endurance.
What are your thoughts on intervals/sprints? Do you love them? Hate them?
