My Chat With Walt Disney

I recently came across a Kindle Book for 1,000 Awesome Writing Prompts as a Kindle Daily Deal (at the time) I figured it was worth the $2.99 to get my brain out and moving again when it came to writing. I miss blogging a lot and thought this would be a good opportunity to start *thinking* again. I had a Facebook chat with my sister-in-law at The Housewife Memoirs and we decided to pick a prompt every few weeks and just write.

12. You get the opportunity to talk to a famous deceased person. Who do you chat with and what do you talk about? What are some of their answers? Try writing in their voice.

Walt Disney & Mickey
‘If you can dream it, you can do it. Always remember that this whole thing was started with a dream and a mouse.’

As the original voice of Mickey Mouse it’s hard not to think of having a conversation with Walt Disney in any other voice. So “letttt’s go!”

There is no greater source of joy or inspiration than watching kids run through the gates at the grand opening of Disneyland. It was a day I will remember forever. Kids and adults are one in the same as they lined up for the train and worked their way through the land.

Watching visitors as they ventured through Fantasy Land that first day, I couldn’t help but think of how many kids are having their dreams come true.

The cast moved about, lighting up the faces of kids as they hugged, smiled and shared high fives. All I could do was soak it all in with awe of what we had created. A place for the American family to live their dreams, spend time together & enjoy each other’s company.

Was there ever any question in your mind to expand Disneyland into what ultimately became “the Magic Kingdom” in Orlando?

No, there was never a question in my mind. With delayed construction I was never able to live to see the construction begin. I was able to trust that my family and co-workers would handle everything. They took it above and beyond anything I could ever have dreamed.

Did you ever expect to create the lasting legacy you did?

If you can dream it, you can do it.  Always remember that this whole thing was started with a dream and a mouse. It was always a dream of mine to provide a place for families to play together, laugh together & remain young at heart. Not only were we able to provide that with Disneyland, Disney World & all of the other locations around the world but we’ve been able to create other opportunities inside and outside of the home for families to share time together. Take a trip to the movies and see your favorite Disney Princess, turn on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse in the morning to get your daily dose of scavenger hunts.

Kids and parents of all ages are able to share time together in the comfort of their home or while hanging with goofy at a theme park.

If you could go back and relive one day of your life what day would it be?

The day that Disneyland opened. The joyous faces of everyone inside the theme park made the day one of the best days ever.

Are you truly frozen under the Pirates of the Caribbean ride in Disney World?

*Laughs* No, That is a long standing Urban Legend. My animators had an odd sense of humor, there is no secret of Walt Disney hiding in a theme park.

What is the best advice you could ever give?

“All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.”

P.S. Don’t forget to check out Rebecca’s chat with Robin Williams!

  1. […] My Chat With Walt Disney – Looking back I probably would rewrite 90% of this post. Yet, it is the post that got me started writing again so I’m going to have to include it here.  […]

    1. It was a LOT of fun and really hard to come up with the whole story!
